Noita Review - Game Of Exploration And Experimentation

A true game-world, this little brother of "Spelunky" pushes simulation so far that it manages to make people forget that there is a creator behind the creation. A year ago, after spending twenty-five hours on a working version of Noita , it seemed clear to me that it was, already as it is, one of the best games of the year 2019. Version "1.0", that is to say, a priori definitive is available since October 15 on PC and confirms us in the idea that it could also be one of the games to remember from the year 2020. Brilliantly unpredictable game and yet obeying very precise physical rules (those of our world), a fascinating blank page stretched as much to the explorer as to the alchemist in us, Noita in version 1.0 is still as stunning as it was a year ago. Let's just add that it has since been enriched with many new magical effects with which to tinker, new segments of the world to visit, and new wands (like the formidable and almost too powerful ones that cause a

Spiritfarer Review - When Death Rhymes With Poetry

After Jotun and Sundered, Thunder Lotus Games returns this time with a third game called: Spiritfarer . Announced as a sweet management game about death, the title had something to arouse curiosity, but is a concept alone is not enough to make a good game. Let's see what has to offer this adventure much calmer but above all much more intimate than its predecessors. So I decided to test the game on a standard PlayStation 4 over approximately 30 hours of play with English subtitles. Although a French version is already available on Steam for those fellow French Canadians and Europeans of course, it will only arrive on consoles in the days/weeks to come, while the update is validated by the various manufacturers. To infinity and beyond Spiritfarer , this is your new function. After a brief introduction telling you that you will have to accompany the spirits on their way to the next world, you are let loose aboard a special boat that only you can operate. What strikes you from the firs

Super Mario 3D All Stars Review: Nostalgia Without Real Technical Prowess

Super Mario 3D All Stars celebrates 35 years of the mustached plumber by paying tribute to his three-dimensional adventures. A great burst of nostalgia, which is already establishing itself as one of the biggest commercial successes of the year ... despite its many flaws. This is an anniversary that Nintendo intends to celebrate as it should, with the release of the highly anticipated Super Mario 3D All Stars on Nintendo Switch. Expected for September 18, the title has the luxury of bringing together three of the most striking 3D adventures of the mustached cap, namely Super Mario 64, released in 1997 on Nintendo 64, Super Mario Sunshine, released in 2002 on GameCube, and Super Mario Galaxy, released in 2007 for Wii. The mastodons of the history of video games, who are giving themselves a nice HD facelift for the occasion, while retaining their original charm. Super Mario 64 Released in 1997 for Nintendo 64, Super Mario 64 is the very first 3D game featuring the cult character. Avail

Madden NFL 21 Review: A Title That Lack Rhythm

Great sports institutions, whether they are the competitions organizers, clubs or franchises, have clearly not been spared since the beginning of the year. The all-powerful National Football League is an exception, given its 100th season ended with a Super Bowl in February and the Chiefs' victory just before the actual pandemic. Released on August 28, Madden NFL 21 from Electronic Arts marks the comeback of the American football after a long time period without any hitch, and just before the Kickoff that just happened on last September 10. Do not stagnate, evolve. If you follow the logic of the player who embodied the cover of Madden NFL 20 , namely the young and talented Patrick Mahomes, this is what should happen for this new version. Yes, but now this time it is the reigning MVP Lamar Jackson, QB of the Baltimore Ravens who has been headlining. The challenge is somehow to swim against the current of recent releases marked EA Sports, to breathe new life into Madden, without comp

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Review - The Return of the King

In 1999, Babe hits theaters, Ricky Martin sings Living La Vida Loca. But 1999 also saw the release of the first episode of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, a video game that would mark the video game and the place of skateboarding in video games. Released on Nintendo 64, Dreamcast but especially PlayStation, the game was the perfect compendium of the world of extreme sport: the impressive and enjoyable aspect of the tricks, the most famous skaters of the time (Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen in the lead ), and a soundtrack, between rock, punk, ska, metal or hip-hop. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is one of those games which very clearly marked the players, because it managed to be accessible to all, offering a very high margin of progression, and had a great feeling, perfectly representing the spirit of skateboarding in the 90s, when the popularity of the practice was unparalleled. 20 years later, and after fifteen games and 5 years of absence, the license is back with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2.

How video games changed the world

Charlie Brooker dominated Channel 4's Saturday night schedule where he looks at 25 of the most influential video games ever made. Video games still remain in a weird liminal zone between fan culture and mainstream understanding. By following Brooker theory, let's find more about how today the world is constantly changing face to the video game industry.  First, what we need to know is in the earlier '70s, video games were seen as a waste of time, do what happened to this industry? Why playing video games became so popular? Do you know some people like you and I are currently making a decent amount of money just by playing some video games? Awesome right? So let's dig in and find how an why the industry became more popular than the music and film industry combined together. Victoria Szabo , a visual studios professor and co-director of Duke’s Greater Than Games Lab, has been studying digital places and spaces and systems that take advantage of games, mobile devices, and

Which Classic Video Game Character Are You?

It's amazing to see how far video games have come. If we go back to the '80s, no one could imagine how some video games started. In fact, they started with just an idea in mind with a bunch of animated pixels called sprites. These sprites, however, also include some of our best characters. For example, from Duncky Konk The Mario franchise was born. Just think about Mario Bros and even Super Mario Bros games. What about Zelda and even Sonic? We all know these characters since our childhood, and 30 years later those characters also evaluate with the technology.  Everyone's favorite portly plumber used to look like a pointy-nosed old man. Now he looks like a well-defined mustachioed hero. Character's like Princess Zelda, Kirby, and even Lara Croft, saw the same treatment. But what if you were one of those characters? Witch of the classic video game character are you? I know this iss crazy to think about that, but if we take a moment we will find that retro and classic

Are 2D Games Still Popular in 2020?

In 2020, the video game industry is full of new releases. Whatever if you are a game designer working for a 3A game company, or even if you are just an indy game developer, chances are you probably ask this question yourself: are 2D games still popular in 2020? The answer might surprising because actually 2D games are more popular than ever before starting with the retrogaming industry. Thankfully, 2D gaming later saw a resurgence in the industry,  and with most of these AAA series receiving 2D (or at least 2.5D) entries. Just think of these popular indie games like Nuclear Throne, Hyper Light Drifter, and also Super Meat Boy! Those 2D video games pave the way forward for what was nearly a lost art. Even if some blockbusters like Red Dead Redemption 2, Fortnite, and Overwatch seems to dominate the market, there will always be a place for 2D pixel art somehow. We have to remember that a video game is still an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate v
